Your voice belongs in the conversation

You can tell people what matters to you through signing, speaking, writing, drawing, pictures or another way that works for you.

Checked 1 October 2026

More than a hearing test

You are a whole person, with interests, friendships and ideas. You can be proud of being deaf, use hearing technology, enjoy BSL, use speech or choose different ways to communicate in different places.

You do not have to explain everything about deafness to everyone. Adults should help make things accessible.

Make a “My views” page

Try these prompts with someone you trust. You can sign your answers, draw, write or use pictures. Choose what you want to share.

  • Something I enjoy…
  • People I can communicate with easily…
  • A time I feel left out or miss something…
  • What helps me understand…
  • Something I want adults to change…
  • Something I want to try…

Ways to ask for access

“Please face me.”
“I missed that. Can you explain it another way?”
“I need signing / captions / a quieter place.”
“Please include me in the conversation.”

Choose the phrases that fit you. If asking is difficult, agree a signal or written message with an adult who can help.

Deaf adult perspectives

Published stories from Deaf adults can show different lives and experiences. The external NDCS campaign “A Message to Younger Me” includes Deaf public figures talking to their younger selves.

Explore the published campaign and stories.

These are the contributors’ own perspectives, not a prediction of any one child’s future.

This site does not publish children’s stories or collect videos. If you share a worksheet, choose what to include and who may see it. You can leave out names, your school and anything private.

If something is making you feel unsafe, tell an adult you trust. The urgent help page includes support routes for families.
